The sacred Shwedagon Pagoda - Yangon, Myanmar (Burma)

Everyone will agree that the Shwedagon Pagoda is by far the Number 1 place to visit in Yangon city (Rangoon), Myanmar. This huge religious and historical complex requires a two or three hours visit and includes some of Burma's holiest jewels, as well as Buddhist relics. Inside of the dome of the main pagoda (in the center) it is said that there are hairs of the last Buddha (Shakyamuni) and also relics from the previous Buddha. The shrine is considered to be 2500 years old, and is the holiest site in the country.

This is a destination of pilgrimage for buddhists as well, and over there, when you get in, you can also see a huge Bodhi Tree that is an offspring from the one under which Lord Buddha became enlightened almost more than 2500 years ago. This kind of offspring trees are very cherished, mainly because the original tree was killed over 2200 years ago by King Ashoka's wife, that had become jealous because of her husbands deep devotion to Buddhism.

Today, you have one offspring of the original Bodi Tree here, as well as in Sri Lanka and Sarnath, as far as I know. The oldest of all being the one in Sri Lanka.
